Description
Brown Davis Aluminium Drop Tanks
Brown Davis has been manufacturing aluminium drop tanks since 1978, building a reputation in Australian motorsport and performance fabrication. The original designs were developed during the touring car racing era of the 1970s and early 1980s, and today’s tanks still follow that same proven concept. While materials and manufacturing processes have been refined over time, the core design remains true to the race-bred drop tanks that became popular in Group C and touring car competition.
Each tank is designed as a bolt-in replacement that fits the factory floor location, maintaining clean installation and period-correct appearance. They are widely used in restorations, street cars and high-performance builds where strength, capacity and reliability are essential.
Construction and Design
Brown Davis aluminium drop tanks are TIG-welded for strength and durability. They feature heavy-duty mounting brackets and internal baffling to control fuel movement under acceleration, braking and cornering. The drop tank design increases fuel capacity while lowering the fuel mass in the vehicle, improving both range and performance characteristics.
Although modernised for today’s fuel systems, the tanks remain based on the original touring car–era layout, maintaining the heritage look and function that enthusiasts value.
Proven Since 1978
For nearly five decades, Brown Davis has continued to manufacture aluminium drop tanks based on the same race-inspired design principles established in the touring car era. Whether for a Falcon, Torana, Commodore or HQ Holden, these tanks combine heritage styling with modern fuel system compatibility, making them a trusted solution for classic Australian performance vehicles.
